So ridiculous... All I have to do is ask J "Want to go on the chain?" and he gets excited, because that's his play time. He can be outside safely on his tie out, and have 30-40 feet of running space. Most of his crazy pics I post outside of the fenced yard, where he looks like a happy lunatic, are on his chain/tie out.
Does this mean that walking your dog on a leash is cruel? Because, many people I know have their dogs on a leash for hours... You know, the HSUS had a stand at a pet event I went to, they were there ALL day, and they had a dog tied to their table. ALL DAY. I really should have pointed out the irony in it.
How about fences? I have seen SO many dogs injured from chain-link, getting paws stuck and pads ripped, one dog I knew climbed his chain link, and fell forward over it, but his front foot was stuck and it broke most of the bones in it while he dangled, screaming, a big GSD. Wouldn't have happened on a chain. I'd seen dogs fence fight and get each other's faces through the fence... dogs properly chained can't touch each other, and can't reach the property edge to fight passing dogs. My own GSDs years back injured themselves MANY times on the fence. Our male needed stitches one his man parts because he went over the 6' fence and slipped on the top, tearing himself open.
All we can do is fight it and use facts and common sense.
