A guy my brother knew was breeding his Pits. The mother abandoned the litter, so my brother took a female at 3 weeks old as the "breeder" didn't care for the pups. My brother already had 2 dogs and lost his job. The little female was named Princess and lived with them for over a year. She got double ear infections and there was no moeny to treat her. My brother was going to take her to a shelter because he couldn't find her a home after a few months of trying, but with her being older, black, a Pit and having health problems, I knew she would be put down. So, I talked the hubby into letting me have her. We renamed her Rita, are battling the ear infections (she is on meds again til the 22nd and then back to the vet for another check) and she is awesome! Sweet, smart, cuddle bug with a great sense of humor and she loves all other critters from kids to dogs to cats to birds.
My friends were looking to get a cat. Their daughter called and said she knew a guy who had a Pit he couldn't care for at all. The dog was being fed a piece of bologna a day as the family was very poor and couldnt even feed themselves. My friend met the dog, fell in love and they have had him for over a year now. Hes a great dog, knows all kinds of tricks and is the biggest lover! I do get on them about his weight, though. He is kinda...umm..fat! He was just so skinny when they got him that they just can't say no when he wants food, but there are worse things.
