I personally would not do it... He's not in danger of dying, they are good to their dogs, he's not rotting in a kennel 24/7... And feeling sorry is a bad, bad reason to get a dog. Not to mention his questionable temperament, if they say no kids and 'guard' training. But do inquire with a hundred questions if you're interesting, really get to know who he is.

I would go with a female, it does lessen the chances of having to permanently separate.
