The blue dog fad will eventually fade. First it was the red/red nosed dogs and then the all white dogs. Now it's blue. These fads will all go away as those owning them care only for the money and ego and not for the dogs themselves. As soon as buying interest wanes, so will the fad.
I don't know that it will fade.
The interest MAY wane, BUT -- dilution being a recessive gene, once you have this many blue dogs (there are a LOT in UKC), you don't get the other colors back....every pup a blue dog produces at least carries the dilution gene and so there are too many opportunities for more blues to be produced, pushing out the other colors. You won't get them back. We may be "stuck" with a lot of blues, because even if we don't breed FOR them, we are going to get them. After all these years of breeding so many blues, the recessive gene is spread out so much through the population, you can't get rid of it.
