Well what's the alternative, when you "go out of town" (and do you have to do that often)?

If your mom is willing to keep your dog in the run, he would still probably be happier and safer there than in a boarding kennel if that is your only other alternative.

Or, just stay home or go on trips where you can take your dog?

It depends on where you live, in Tn it is very illegal to kill someone elses pets. My co worker killed a dog b/c every week it would get into his trash and mess up his property and the owner didnt care. So he killed it one day mid-trash duty and the owners called the sheriff and he was arrested served 5 days in jail and 2 years probation.

Well here, the dog has to be on your property and I think it also has to be a threat to people or animals too. And, you better have all your gun permits in order because they will come and investigate.

Here, the garbage gets put out on the curb which is public property, so maybe that's how it happened with your co worker, I don't know.
