My thought for every hole I play is "Par". All you need is 18 of em and you are sitting pretty. Every shot I make is an attempt to make par and very rarely do I take a risk that might jeopardize that. If I end up with a birdie or bogie so be it, if I get a double or above, I've done something wrong. Between that and moving past the hole as soon as its done, thats how I try to avoid streaks.
Thats a really good approach. That, along with "take your medicine" and "play for bogey" after getting in trouble can really help keep a round safe.
