Well, it's not just an issue with the way the club contacts the ground. As loft increases, the lie angle will have more of an effect on where the club face is aimed.

One of the easiest ways to see this is to hit a ball with a wedge off a side lie (ball above your feet). Set up square to the target and then take a look where that face is aiming.
This is an excellent post. I had an iron set that was way too upright for me. I literally couldn't hit the ball
