The fitter will know what specs are best for you. If it's not a fitting put on by a certain brand then all balls should be fair game. If price is a factor perhaps try lostgolfballs.com where you could find near mint ProV1s and the like for half the cost.
I've bought some balls on lostgolfballs.com and I don't fully trust it. I've bought AAAAA 1st grade balls and I'd say they were more like a 2nd grade. So this is why I'm wondering if I'd get an alternative from the fitter.
