I've seriously thought about this. I think I'd like to get the handicap down more before I do. Enjoy it and good luck!
Your HI is lower than mine GH. :-) Here is some information from their FAQ page:

What’s the level of competition?

Every event will have a gross division, net division and net stableford division. All competitors are automatically entered into each of the three events. Individuals placing “in the money” in more than one division will win prizes in the division where they receive the largest prize. We expect to have players of all abilities, men, women & seniors!

How good do I have to be to play on the New England Series?

We expect you to have a working knowledge of the rules and golf etiquette. If you can break 110, you will enjoy the NES and have the ability to compete against the field.

I've also given some serious thought to this, though this probably won't be the year unless financial situation improves. Look forward to hearing more about it and how you do. Good luck!
It costs $100 to join and they give you a $75 gift bag. I'm not sure how much each tournament costs. They play some very nice venues.

Here is the website if either of you would like more information: http://www.newenglandseries.com/index.cfm?menu=4579
