I would still call it a hole and one.

I do find it funny that in a sport were the entire emphasis is on honor and on self policing that people would doubt whether or not you had a hole in one. I guess my question for those people who say "My group would never believe me"- who are you playing with (or who are you)? My guys wouldn't doubt me at all if I said I had a hole in one. I would hope they know me well enough to know my character and not just my golf game.

I completely agree. My friends would not bat an eyelash at all if I told them I had one. They would also immediately demand I buy the drinks the next round. So to answer the question, of course it counts. Why wouldn't it?
