I have to say its more about proper fitting equipment then anything. You can learn to play with any kind of club but your game will suffer. When I got fit for my first set of irons I was aiming 25 yards right of my target b/c I used to have to do that to hit the ball at my target. The lie was so bad on my irons that I couldn't hit the ball straight. That alone made the biggest difference in my game I had ever seen. The best thing to do is get a lesson and get fit after the lesson. That will get the right clubs for the swing.
