It generally depends on a few factors... but the tendency is to play ready golf. If we are up with the group ahead and everyone is ready to go, then honors takes precedence. If we are off pace because of a ball search or such, then we play ready golf. Honors given only if the recipient is ready when it's time to play.
I know almost nobody who is bothered by not getting honors on the tee. Most of the guys I play with play in the Men's Club and even in stroke tournaments we don't worry about honors, or who's away, or other such irrelevancies. Pace of play is the prime consideration.
In match play, order of play is a Rule of Golf, so then honor is observed.
