its a pity.. id prefer it to be only the amateurs that get to play.
watching Woods, Harrington, Casey, Els etc battle it out, its just another competition really.. but as a means to watch amateurs, it would be fascinating getting to see the new talent on display.

eitherway, I like Golf being an olympic sport
I'd prefer only amateur as well - in ALL Olympic categories. I used to get into the Olympics until the pro's showed up to play basketball; after that I lost interest in it.

With the enormity of the golf industry, having the game become an Olympic event will only serve to create an even bigger marketing machine than that which already exists. I think it's a shame that something which once was a test of athleticism for the sake of athleticism has completely sold out to commercialism. Actually, this has created a sort of "underground" Olympics in that the more compelling event is seeing which corporate giant wins the fight for most air time.

Small consolation actually, but somewhat more compelling, I think, than watching the same pro's play the same game I can watch any week of the year.
