Ah, but pros draw fans, ratings, and ad dollars. Who would watch Olympic tennis if it were a bunch of no names? Golf is just the same.
I would.

In fact, one of the reasons why I don't care much for the AT&T as much as I used to is that in the last several years the amateurs have all but disappeared in terms of coverage. I liked it when they used to pay attention to them because it had a more "I-can-relate-to-that" feel to it.

In the Olympics, I loved it when it was all amateur but as I wrote, they completely lost me as a viewer once we caved in to the almighty dollar and agreed to play pros.

I can watch pro sports anytime, but amateurs are never seen on television except in rare instances and frankly, I think that stinks. I honestly couldn't care less about watching Tiger and the rest of the usual suspects playing golf in the Olympics.

So maybe "pros draw fans" in your world, but not in mine; quite the contrary, actually.
