Keith,
I still have shoes that are 8 years old, and just had new inserts put in. I do play with a few guys that use Green Joys and a few of the other cheaper shoes. Nothing wrong with them and they seem to work for them. However I consider them more of a disposable shoe. Something that you will replace after a season or two at the most.
I try and take care of my shoes the best I can. Shoes can get pretty costly with all the tech in them now (whether you believe they help or not) and I want them to last. I clean them after most rounds. Polish them (keeps scratches and scuffs away) to keep from cracking and want them to last for years. No different than my apparel or my clubs.
To answer the original question, I still have a great pair of shoes that are 7 years old. New insoles put in and had some work on the soles. They were quite pricey when I bought them and think they will last for years.
