UGH, I got poison ivy last week looking for a ball. Everywhere from head to toe including places you really don't want poison ivy rashes. I need to keep that in mind. I didn't know rubbing alcohol would prevent the rashes.
Gots a doctor? Give the office a call and tell him (or the nurse) you want a generic Medrol Dospak. Very inexpensive. You start out with like 6 tabs the first day and the dosage decreases daily. The poison ivy will be GONE in a few days!

There is an oil in poison ivy leaves called urishol (spelling). It contains the allergens for poison ivy. Alcohol will wipe the oil clean instead of smearing it. It will also prevent what you did by getting that oil on your hands and then touching various parts of your body. The unfortunate news is that poison ivy also spreads systemically (as told to me by a dermatologist) and that's why you really need the Dospak.
