As I understand it when a person purchases a home on a golf course, they are taking responsability for any damage done. If you have been watching TGC , Kevin Sorbo, and who ever the pro is he is playing with, those home owners had to sign a an agreement that they could not hold the golfers, or the golf course responsible for any damages.
There is a case going through some court that the only time a player is responsible is if they do damage when taking a "mulligan". There is thread on here some where that tells about that case.
I have landed numerous balls is peoples back yards with out doing any damage. There are quite a few homes on my home course that look like they have been hit by a machine gun with all the ball marks in the stucco finish. .
Personally I think that if a golfer does damage to a home, they should offer to pay for said damage. Unless of course the home owner becomes an irate idiot at which point, you tell them to pack sand
