Ah, the lost ball. I'd like to get people's opinions on this one.

I know it's the rules, but it drives me nuts when a player loses his ball, spends their 5 minutes looking, then walks back to the tee. If I think a ball even 'could' be lost, I will hit a provisional. If by chance I don't hit a provisional because I'm pretty sure I'm going to find it, but then end up losing the ball, I will drop near where I think it should be after searching and hit away. Clearly this is for casual play.

Am I being too casual?
No. I do the same thing. Add 2 and drop in the vicinity. It's silly to hit a provisional every time you miss a fairway and it's annoying as hell for the folks waiting behind you to see you trudging back to the tee after waiting for (at least) 5 minutes already. The rules gurus will jump you for this, but it's just common sense and courtesy to me.
