If you are going to take two shots, do you just toss it out there or do you at least give yourself a good lie? If you don't, aren't you kind of double-penalizing yourself, since, there may have been a 50% chance your second tee shot may have hit the fairway? I mean, at this point the rules are out the window since you aren't re-teeing anyway, so if you lose your tee shot, take a two shot penalty, as though you hit three off the tee, what's wrong with making sure you have a decent shot for your next one? If you know it's in the woods, and there's a wide open space within a bunch of trees, do you put it there or take it out so you don't have to make a hero shot over, around or through the trees? Whenever I do the two shot penalty with no re-tee, I might not put it in the fairway but it's going to be close, at least on a fluffed lie.
