I wouldn't call it a joke. Arguably, it is the best solution for a smartphone if you care about battery life. There are certain calls apps are allowed to make in the background. The reason it's not true multitasking is the OS doesn't allow the app to have full access to the OS like in a typical desktop OS or on Android.

Well I don't care, it sucks having to have my prefered messaging or whatever internet based application running in front, because as soon as the system locks the screen it kills whatever the app is doing, I'm considering to change to android for that small reason.
