When you say kies, are you referring to OTA updates? Latest firmware supports it I believe:

I've had no issues with the proximity sensor on my white SGSII at all DM.

I was, and I stand corrected.

The proximity sensor works fine on my new one so I guess it was just a problem with the old one.
