Sort of got caught twice, first was owned by an apprentice mechanic so thought it'd've been well looked after and maintained - was the biggest f*** up I've ever seen - almost all of the problems were down to his imcompetence and relatively eaily fixed except the gearbox bearings. That was my fault for being in a hurry to get back for supper - it was cheap, though. The second case was also a gearbox issue - I'd done a full service and belts but couldn't quite get the gearbox fill plug out so left it - no sign of leaks, anyway - 4 or 5 k kms later some bearing noise was evident - very low oil level again! So put in another s/h one.

That's about it - I expect to hav to do some work on a car, just check them out as well as I can first.
