First of all, congrats on the purchase for your wife.

However, if it were up to me, I would have gone for a Camry or Civic if I were buying a 10 year old car. My mom had 3 Camrys in her lifetime, and each went over 200K with little to no problems over the course of the ownership.
You gotta watch out though on the Camry's. Or really anything Toyota from 1997 to 2002.

Major oil sludge problems. My Mom's Sienna suffered this fate at around 130,000 miles and she changed the oil religiously at the Toyota dealer. Thankfully because she did that, she got a new motor for free. Only had to pay labor.
Same kind of thing happened to my brother in laws Camry and it threw a rod. My Mom's van seized on her.
