And the opposite too. Saw a NJ driver (surprise!) go from a complete standstill right over to the left lane in 75mph traffic a bit north of the city a few years ago. Still can't believe the idiot didn't get run down by a truck.


In my mind, more rigorous enforcement of speed limits is counterproductive to road safety. If you have to be worried about not erring above the speed limit, you're staring at the gauge all the time, not the road. Get the people weaving through traffic or passing w/o signaling, but hell with farming month-end quotas off people going 75 or 80 in 75 or 80 mph traffic. Though I think I prefer that to the state police guaranteed 'slow down traffic' method, where they weave through to the front of a group and go to the left or right lane, slow down and then make a hard turn into the far lane [no]
