I read somewhere that every year 160 US soldiers commit suicide in Iraq alone. I think that must be unheard of in US warfare, except for maybe Vietnam, I know that was a pretty horrible one.
That 160 figure is for all active-duty personnel, not just those in Iraq. Which makes it a little more than 20 per 100,000 per year. Though that's only slightly higher than the civilian suicide rate, its the highest for the military in the 30 years they've has been keeping track. No idea about how that compares to the Vietnam war, since there's lots of myths, half truths and bullshit-based extrapolations everywhere you look, because the government didn't keep track of soldier's suicides at the time.
