ESBI & Residential Email - This could be fun
Found a $14.95 charge on my phone bill today. So I'm thinking wtf is this crap, I don't bill to my phone.
I call around, get in touch with the people, and they give me my wife's name (I refused to tell them our relation or my current address). Now I'm thinking "Ok, she got suckered into buying something". So I dig a little deeper. It was an internet purchase for some coupon bullcrap (red flag, she doesn't coupon shop online) AND after I got them to release the address they gave me an address that doesn't match our address. It's our previous address which doesn't exist. Years ago we moved out and it was rezoned and merged with an adjacent lot. The address doesn't exist anymore. Also, at the old address we weren't yet married. Married name, pre-marriage address that doesn't exist.
So my thought is that some company sells lists of information and this company makes fraudulent charges to people's phones who don't subscribe to a 3rd party billing block. Given that the information they purchased is years old I'm thinking of pursuing this matter legally as fraud. Not sure how far I could get with it, or if anything would come of it.
I googled the two companies involved and there are TONS of fraud complaints. Companies like these shouldn't be allowed to stay in business. This could be fun and entertaining.

Probably a futile attempt to punish the bad guy, and I'll get nowhere, but it doesn't hurt to try.
