I was kind of in the same position, I went from normal techie to been the second person in the server team.

There is only the 2 of us who look after all the servers, infrastructure and telephone systems. Anyway I was only on 14k when i started the server stuff, after 1yr i said i want more money for what im doing becuase i was at least doing the same job as the other guy who was on more money. It took 1yr 1/2 for me to get bascially bugger all extra money then after 6months i moaned again and now im on 20k plus working from home overtime at time and a half.

All in all im now bringing home about 25k which isnt great but IT in Hull is crap pay anyway but it does mean that my 7 years here and couple of quals mean in september i will be moving to manchester to another job. 30k + and then benefits + extra pay whilst away consulting.

A couple years of that and I can start thinking of the "big bucks" somewhere else.

As most have already said leave, I wish I had.
