Indeed if you rely in electricity to live then some backup systems need to be in place.

#1... small generator connected to a few emergency sockets around the home for emergency use. It kick starts when power is out from the mains.

#2 emergency call system. There are call systems that an old person can use where they just hit a button and that tells an emergency team that there is someone in trouble. They then rush out to see what it is.

#3. make sure the electricity company you are with has a special registration area for people that can't have electricity cut off.
