A monotonous voice, which displays lack of emotion works for me.
Even when talking on the phone covering the mouth with a cloth makes one sound a little muffled, hence 'true' voice is masked.

I’d imagine my sis muslimah that maintaining such a monotonous tone would be very difficult in a public discussion you’re passionate about. With something in our mouths however, our voices would sound ugly no matter what. Wallahu a’lam Barak Allah ta’aala.
