you should have had it out with him. put him on the spot. you should have asked him if jannat was just for the rich and educated. should have brought his attention to the fact that the Prophet

was illiterate and poor just like the people that he does not deem worthy of inviting to Allah and His Rasool

the brother himself needs inviting. take him in jamaat.
