Inshallah do visit and spend a while there. Talk to the Imam and anyone you can there. There is a very good possibility that there are people local to you who go to the same masjid. To give you a personal example, I know people who travel 70 miles from Wales, UK to pray in a Masjid in Telford, England, UK. And though they're spread out over farms and villages, alhumdullilah they keep in touch with one another and help one another.
