So recently I started a new job and, for the first time I'm actually going out LOOKIng like a muslim (beard, kufi). Naturally, people recognize me as one. This one guy likes to ask me questions and stuff (which is sort of the point of looking like one!). He served in Iraq so he's been around muslims before (as he said when he first asked "You're white... but I know what that hat means.") However, he seems to have seen some crazy stuff so he has some funny ideas. For example, he was under the impression that in Islam, if you make a mistake, if you sin, that's IT. You are DONE for and that there is no forgiveness. I told him I had never heard of anything like that at all. He of course thinks honor killings are part of the religion, because he knew of some Jordanian man who killed his daughter. There was something else he mentioned that I am forgetting, but my question is, for the "no forgiveness in Islam" thing is... has anyone heard this? My concern is not "is this true islam?" Cause I know it's not, so you don't need to quote hadith or ayat about it. My question is if anyone knows the origins of these deviant beliefs. Any Iraqis? Is this a particular cultural thing? If I remember the other questions or funny ideas he'd heard I'll post them here too.
