One way to build connection is to increase on following the Sunnah of the Prophet, peace be upon him, as much as possible.

Say (O Prophet): “If you really love Allah, then follow me, and Allah shall love you and forgive you your sins. Allah is Most-Forgiving, Very-Merciful.” (3:31)

Also, increase on the voluntary worship.

The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said that Allah Most High said,
“No means whereby My servant seeks My Favour are more pleasing to Me than the observance of the fard actions (such as Salah, Zakah, Sawm, Hajj etc.).

My servant keeps coming closer to Me with nafl actions, until I make him My favourite, and when I make him My favourite, I become his ears with which he hears, his eyes with which he sees, his hands with which he holds, and his feet with which he walks.

If he asks Me for something, I fulfill his desire, or if he seeks refuge against anything, I grant him refuge.” (Al-Bukhari)

In addition, help other creations to get connected with the Creator, and inshaAllaah your connection with the Creator will become strong.
