One very effective way is to have contact with the pious lovers of Allah.. someone who when you see you are reminded of Allah, someone who when they talk to you or even write to you, you feel like doing more, becoming better, leaving sins, and loving Allah Ta'aala and His Rasool more than you ever had.

I once heard a narration of a pious person who mentioned the benefits of sitting in the company of the pious.
He mentions it is like visiting an ittar shop. You will probably buy some ittar and use it regularly and derive benefit on a daily basis, if you don't buy any the shop owner may apply some on your clothes and atleast for that whole day you will be smelling very nice, and if that also does not happen atleast you will enjoy the fragrances for a few minutes or hours while you are in the store. So the benefit of associating with the pious is definetly there.
