After reading several threads here it has come to my attention that several members think that Christmas being hijacked or assaulted is hogwash. I'd like to offer the following observance of a 50 year old man..........me!

Last night I went to the shopping for my grandson. Instead of finding stores decorated to the hilt with Christmas/Holiday tunes gleefully filling the stores with holiday cheer, I found that if the store was photographed, no one would be able to detect that it was just days before Christmas.
Living near in a big city as I child, I have memories of department stores that dedicated entire floors to Christmas. Decorated to the hilt, they had ten times the toys to choose from. Parents took the kids to see Santa and let them point out their dream gifts.. ( if you're good , maybe Santa will bring you one ) What a time of year to be a kid! Christmas seemed like it would never get , time seemed to stand still from Thanksgiving on.
So where did it all go? Do some adults who want to move towards secularism feel that their own selfish demands should override the joy of our children? Would it really kill them to let kids visit decorated stores and hear Christmas carols?
I'm looking at the Christmas of today and let me tell you folks , it sucks! I feel fortunate to have experienced it when it was all it could be...........a virtual fantasyland to feed the mind of a child.
Ditto the good doctor's points.

And Toronto - the atheist-secularist capital of North America (or perhaps second to Berkeley California), is the host of the oldest and largest Santa Claus parade in North America - indeed, recently a couple of smaller Santa parades have been created for each of the suburbs and small towns that surround Toronto.

And you can't go ten feet in this city without finding decorated christmas trees, holly and jiggle bells - and yes, even (gasp) nativity scenes - though you'd probably be hard pressed to find a nativity scene on public property, it is not entirely unheard of. And they have caroling at the park in front of City Hall on Christmas Eve...

War on Christmas? Apparently only in the USA - and as the good doctor has noted, apparently only in the Bible-Belt south... (where liberals and secularists are presumed to be rare)... hmm... kinda makes you wonder what is really going on...
