It seems the public has sent a message, which the Repubs should pay close attention to. The only Major success for them was the election of the Mayor pf New York. I think it is a shame that they (Bush) didn't get the message earlier Although I am a stanch anti-Busher I am a moderate independant and it appears that (unless some other worm comes out of the Democratic woodwork) I will be voting for a presidential candidate from the Republican Party. There are absolutely NOreasonable democratic alternates at this time.

What "message" was sent? NJ and Va elected Democrats as governors. The previous governors were Democrats.

Bloomberg's reelection was a foregone conclusion. He got heavy Democratic support, while at the same time virtually every other candidate elected to City Council and other elected positions was a Democrat.

One interesting area is Nassau County on Long Island. It was a local Repub playhouse forever, but in the last few elections has gone Democrat.

As far as the presidency, there doesn't have to be a "reasonable democratic alternative at this time." The election is in 3 years.

A lot of names will come and go. But I do agree that right now, in my opinion, McCain is the best candidate in a general election. However, whether he'd make it out of a Repub primary is questionable.
