A Republic where government and economics are seperated, as are church and state. A government limited to the courts, police and military.
I believe you have to reconsider the extent to which a society can snip the ties that bind an economy to its political system and social values. It is impossible to sustain a feudalist society without the peasantry having fealty towards the aristocracy and without the aristocracy owing allegiance to the supremacy of the king.

So it is with capitalism. It is impossible to sustain an economy based on competition without legitimization of that competitive spirit through some sort of electoral process. Without the legitimization of the American dream via the voting booth, the absolute scarcity of resources and overt and despondent distribution of wealth in American society would otherwise create despair and a destructive, unmanageable populace.

Be very careful of what you wish, for it may come true.

We're all fighting for something after all.
It seems that American society is all too eager to be on the offensive. Unfortunately, your fight now appears to be in your own streets. Perhaps this is the fight of which you speak ? or is the fight one which is unmindfully one between your glorified ideals and the reality of your institutions ?

I pray for an American society which is much less fearful of itself and of those who comprise it.
