This is fascinating - but what about an overwhelming invasion of Taiwan - simply sending an occupying army? It's not exactly high-tech, but it has been the answer for invading armies in close proximity.
To the bottom of Davie Jones' locker, my friend. The last I heard, China can only move some 10,000 or 30,000 troops at once. Given the enormous amount of losses I expect them to take from anti-ship missiles, given that they won't even land on the beach with heavy tanks, given that the ROC forces will outnumber them on the beaches, I don't think they will do so well.

China does not have that many landing craft, that they can exploit their numerical superiority. Even if they did, it would be a turkey-shoot, IMO.

How do you take Taiwan? You need a lot of multirole (F-16 and F-15E type) as well fighter bombers (i.e. Tornado) to soften up the beach head and the areas surrounding the beach head, then you send in your men. Imagine if the Germans had anti-ship missiles, artillery, anti-tank weapons and huge numbers of infantry at Normandy. It would make Normandy look like a cake walk and the beaches would be totally stained red.
