The timing of this seems very suspicious, what with the NSA hearings and all.

What strikes me as odd is that the mayor of LA had never been told of the threat at all.

As well the BBC points out that the plot was discovered and arrests were made by Thailand. Perhaps the name of the thread should read "Thailand is keeping America safe."

Bush also did not mention any information obtained through wiretaps aided in discovering this plot. Actually questions at the press briefing about if wiretaps were involved were left unanswered. You would think with the scrutiny over the NSA wiretaps this would have been a good opportunity to show the benefits without releasing too much information.

not to nitpick you, but Antonio Villaragosa was not the mayor at the time this was supposed to have occured. So it is not surprising that he was not told.
