One thing I would recommend is NOT getting anything from microsoft.

It sounds like what you have is a parasite or some kind of malware. Antivirus software will not take care of it.
Try these:

AdAware http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ is free software and is updated constantly. Just install and update it and one single scan should sort you out.

Doxdesk http://www.doxdesk.com/parasite/ is a website that looks at your browser (works best with ie) and tells you if it can detect any parasites. If it does it gives you very specific details about how to get rid of it.

A reinstall is a bit dramatic if you haven't done it before, so just take those two pills and give me a call in the morning.
