What I paid myself:
-hmmm....$90 for two shinai
-mmmm...somethin like $400-500 for the bogu/tenegui/travel bag etc. (minus shipping)
-around $120 for me kendo gi/hakama
-in the neighborhood of $50-60 for medical
-club fees.....shhhhhh. ( j/k ;P )

....it's not exactly cheap is it?

oh well, worth it.
