Forgive me if this seems daft but why not try something sponsored to do with kendo. A 24hr thing, that way you use the purpose of the fundraising to promote it and maybe get some publicity for it too. 24hr's in armour has got to look better to your local newspaper, radio station, TV station, than a dozen guys [or gals] washing cars [no offence to that idea].

Maybe you can't get a venue for that long, probably the biggest stumbling block. But a full club attempting it, taking it in shifts, would be a way to get that team to Harvard I'd imagine. The publicity would help with the cash and maybe bring in new members. Those guys not in the shift could be fielding questions to people popping in to check out what you're doing. Just a thought
