Take your average 6yr old Japanese kid.

Teach them the words FOOT and BALL. (back this up with a dictionary if need be)

Show them (proper) football.

They get it.

Show them American Football.

They are like "In American English does 'foot' mean 'hand' ?"

I say "Americans neither know their foot from their hand, nor their arse from their mouth' .... which satisfies the argument there and then.

p.s. this is lighhearted.... although argumentatively accurate

p,p.s. "America" includes the state of Canada too.
