So true, but he would be 'generous' about it; I could just hear GV saying something like - "well, I am sure the poor fellow means well".

His irony, subtle self deprecation, and capacity for intellectual nuance was always beyond the grasp of the average american: it is no wonder he chose to get the heck out of this country. HeHe

It reminds me of how he once characterized the 'typical' American Politician - "energetic mediocrities" was the phrase I believe he used.
