Sorry, Jasonik; quid non est demonstrandum. It's not Jefferson's frailties in the bedroom that gave the lie to his principles; it's his personal failure to comply with the principles themselves. It's as though Martin Luther King was a closet segregationist --which of course he wasn't. Jefferson, however, was an elitist in a Jacobin's cap.
