Ian Tomlinson was a newspaper seller and lifelong Londoner who passed away about a month ago, while walking home from work.

The representative of the IPCC (independent investigator into police corruption) visited the offices of the Guardian with an officer of London police, asking the editor to remove footage of Mr Tomlinson's death and hand it over. It had been captured by a New Yorker in London, and until publication, not aired by the police or government. Until then, the public had been informed that a person had died in the G20 protests, and that there had been missiles thrown by protestors from which the dying man had to be protected by police.
