Last year in May, on or about the 27th or 28th, in Newton, a Riverside-bound trolley barreling on the tracks at about 38mph, had abroptly slammed into the rear of a train in front of it, killing the operator. Union officials at the time said that the operators death was no reason for dismissal and fought to keep the deceased operator employed.

"It's the responsibility of the Railway Engineers to make this sort of thing impossible to occur. Operators should not be held entirely responsible for the operation of the train, taht is just not in our contracts" Union officials said.

But seriously, texting? That is beyond bad. But forbidding cell phones on lines? This isn't High School here. maybe we should have cameras on operation booths so that we can catch these guys texting and repromand/fine them. Banning cell phones is a rather childish way to prevent somethnig that can probably happen again (you think Texting was allowed? You think he let everyone see him doing it?).
