Because maybe they thought that there are more things in life (especially for a Presuident to be concerned with) than Gay Marriage?

Not saying it is not important, but still. Comparing Miss America to the President on Job Requirements is a little weird.

BTW, saw a bit on the Colbert Report by this one pastor that pretty much summed it up the way I have been calling for years. Government should not be attached to Religion in any way. Marriage is a religious title. Now wait, before you start yelling. Civil unions are all the government should be concerned with. Who is your partner that cares for you, that is attached to you financially, can visit you in the hospital (etc etc).

This should be like any other license and not require a priest to approve it.

ALL the civic rights conferred currently by the declaration of marriage should be recognised. But calling it "marriage" is a social and religious issue.

Changing the law so that people have the same rights is what Government should be about. Changing peoples opinions should not be. If you want to be in a legally binding union, go to city hall and get your license. If you want to get "Married" go to CHURCH and do it there (and that goes to ALL the people who get married at a church but never go.)

BTW, "Marriage" would have NO legal rights what-so-ever w/o a civil union license. It is only a union in the eyes of God until you pay your fee and sign on the dotted line.
