They were also used to rescue people in the WTC ruins.

They live to about 12 years, from my understanding, so I wonder if the same dogs are employed as sniffer/rescue dogs when young and as guard dogs when older?

Quite a career.

Go to China if you want to see real guard dogs. They begin life as guard dogs eating you and you end up eating them.

In New York City, until probably the early 20th Century, dogs were likely used to cart belongings around.

Are the 57th Street horses the new dogs?
