Of course it is. But then again, we've got a tremendous amount of resources and a relatively stable political system. Even so we can't manage adequately to feed, house, provide health care and educate huge numbers of citizens. When compared to other industrialized "advanced" societies, our numbers are decent to very poor, depending on the category. Nothing to be excessively proud of.
